Last week was Tyler's first birthday. Chad and Shallen had all of us over to their house for cake and ice cream, and to watch him open his presents. We had it out in their backyard. Shallen made a yummy lemon cake with orange frosting (at the request of Kaleb) and sprinkles (can't forget the sprinkles). Kaleb served everyone water while everyone watched Tyler open his presents. He got some great toys. Kaleb was more excited about them than Tyler was, Tyler did play with them, but like all one year olds he wasn't sure about all the attention. Kaleb on the other hand is at the age where everything is an adventure and he wants to make you and everyone else a part of his adventure. It was really fun watching the two of them. I hope Tyler had an excellent party. Happy Birthday Tyler!

Also this past week Valerie went to PAL camp. PAL stands for Program for Accelerated Learners. She was able to attend the class for the performing arts. While her friend Jaymee was in the math class. All week Val went to class from 9:00 to 2:00. In her class they learned a program about Jazz music called "We Has Jazz." There were about 60 kids from different schools in her class. They learned a new song with choreography every day. She would come home everyday pretty tired complete with aching feet. On Friday we got to see the big show. It was really fun. They all had a speaking part, and they all had a solo part to sing, and they all got to dance and sing as a chorus. It was really well done. It was a fun program to watch, and given the time they had to learn it, the kids had it down really well. There were two teachers Mr. Wood from the high school, taught them the music and Mrs. Stetler was in charge of the choreography. Valerie made a whole bunch of new friends (go figure), including one of my former students Summer Brees. I think she learned a lot about jazz music and had a great time doing it.

So cool! I think when I was in the program it was called Gifted and Talented. I was in the performing arts one and got to do the whole show too! I had one of the main parts and lots of solos. It was really fun and I think Valerie probably had a great time. She's quite the performer isn't she?
