A Memorable Memorial Day

School got out on Friday and we left that same day to go to Grandpa's Mountain for our annual "Memorial Day weekend summer starter outer."  Grandpa's Mountain, for those of you who don't know, is about 15 minutes west of Montpilier, Idaho.  It's on the same road as the Boyscout Camp Bartlet.  We told the kids we were going camping about a month in advance.  Marie was so excited, that she asked dailey how much longer before we go camping.  She was more excited about camping than getting out of school.
It took us awhile to get to camp, do to some machanical problems with the Subby (we almost didn't make it at all).  The poor thing is getting old and the trailer is really heavy.  We weren't sure if we should turn around or keep going.  We pressed on and made it.
The camp was too wet up higher where Uncle Alan and his kids and their families always camp so they stayed down in our camp with us this year.  I'm glad they did.  It's fun to get to talk around the campfire with the Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.  Valerie brought her friend Mickey.  They were good to get along with Jake.  He's pretty easy going.  Marie found a friend in Julicia.  Jordan has a new "girlfriend."  Her name is Lyndee and she told him that she wanted him to be her "boyfriend."   She's so cute.  I don't know why, but Jordan spent a lot of his time trying to avoid Lyndee.  I suppose it's so hard being so handsome.  I don't know what it is about Jordan, but all of the little kids always just love him.  Maybe it's the way he smiles or those beautiful brown eyes.

Jessica came up for the day with her friends Taylor and Chris on Saturday.  It was raining all day so they spent most of the day in Grandma's trailer doing puzzles.  They stayed for dinner and then had to leave because Jessica was scheduled to give a talk in her ward on Sunday.  I was sad to see her go.  The girls stayed busy swinging and making sandcastles in the sand box.  Jordan started making a hammock out of two large pieces of wood and some twine.  Jeff and Alicia brought choclate in the form of ganosh (a mousse type of chocolate spread) and homemade marshmallows for roasting.  Yes that's right HOMEMADE marshmallows.  I know what you are thinking, "Why? You can buy them for a buck at the grocery store."  I said the same thing, but Jeff and Alicia are the gourmet cooks, and they do it because they can.  Pretty cool!  The marshmallows and ganosh were really excellent, by the way.  Uncle Alan told us a few stories around the campfire about things that happened when he was putting the road in for the camp.  He says the ancestors are a big reason he and the other brothers were able to buy the property that we have now enjoyed for over 10 years. We are deffinately blessed to have a place we can always come to camp.  Dad Sorenson has put a lot of effort into making things really nice at our camp.  We all love it.

We talked, we laughed, we had a great time.  Yes it was cold, it usually is in May, but we were able to keep warm.  It was also wet. Saturday was rainy, but it dried out on Sunday and Monday.  Then on Monday night it started raining again.  It didn't let up all night long.  We were leaving Tuesday morning (of coarse).  Everything was a soggy, muddy mess.  This is also nothing new for this particular annual camping trip.  Dad Sorenson was kind enough to pull our trailer home for us, therefore saving our Suburban.  We stopped at the cemetary and dropped off flowers to Glenn and to the ancestors.  Then went home to hose everything down.  The trip was a dirty, great way to start the summer.
