Our Great and Adventurous Spring Break

Well it was Easter weekend.  I would like to say that we had a great and adventurous holiday, but I can't say that this year.  The weather was typical spring weather, only it was the rainy-snowy type of spring weather. It made it difficult to want to be outside. Dale wanted to go out of town for spring break, but our ward got split up and he felt like we needed to be here to help tie up loose ends in our old ward and start fresh in our new ward.  Finally, General Conference was this weekend.  I love Conference and I love to hear from our Prophet and the other General Authorities, but it puts a little bit of a damper on some of the fun Easter activities, because we're busy watching Conference.
It was spring break for the kids and I. Dale had taken time off to be with the family this weekend.  On Thursday Dale, Valerie, Jaymie, Marie and I went to Ikea to see what it was like.  Valerie and Jaymie had been there two or three times, and they were always telling us how cool it was, and besides Valerie had her eyes on a loft bed, so Dale thought it would be a fun thing to do, due to the fact that the weather was so yucky.  The Val and Jaymie loved showing us around the entire store.  It was a fun place to go.  It was nice to be able to get some ideas without sales people jumping down your throat trying to sell you something you don't really need.  We do that good enough on our own without the help. We ate at the Ikea cafeteria and had yummy swedish meatballs, and of coarse desert. Then we went and found the beds.  Valerie wanted a loft bed to make more room in her bedroom for her desk and other paraphernalia (frankly I feel she just needs to keep the room she has clean, hahaha), but Dale and I decided it would be fun for her to have the loft bed so we bought it.
We came home and set it up.  It was a lot bigger than we had anticipated, even though while we were in the store we tried (kind of like hunting Christmast Trees in the the wild). It was just huge, but it was done and after a  little hight adjustment, Valerie slept in it that night.  Since then she hasn't slept in it.  The following night, she has had a sleep over at her friends house, then on Saturday night Marie wanted her to sleep in her room, because we put the old bunk beds back up for her (Marie loves them by the way), and then last night Valerie informed us that she could hear "mice" above her in the attic and was scared to sleep in her new bed. Dale reassured her that it wasn't mice, the wind was blowing and the noise was probably the tree brushing against the house or something like that.  She couldn't make herself believe it though and she ended up in Marie's room again... Great we have this lovely, massive, new bed and Valerie won't sleep in it.  What are we going to do?  I have no idea.  I think maybe we just need to move the bed so that her head is in a different corner of the room so she can't hear the tree against the house, but I don't know if that will work.  The bed has to stay in the room it is currently in, because to get it out of the room it would have to be taken down, and it took forever getting the thing up in the first place, and it won't fit in Marie's room, or anywhere else for that matter, so it ain't movin' nowhere.  Maybe Valerie will just have to go back to sharing a room with Marie and we'll give the bed to someone who would love it.  Dale is really beating himself up for buying the stupid bed in the first place.  I think it was a really nice thing that Valerie's Dad did for her, and I think it will work out. Needless to say, the next few nights will be interesting. I'll keep you posted.
Jessica was home for the weekend.  On Saturday we did color eggs and then the girls went to dinner at the Greenery while the men were at the Preisthood session of Conference. It's good to have girls night out once in awhile.
Easter morning was fun.  I gave the kids their traditional Easter baskets.  I still like to do it for the kids even though they are getting older.  Mostly I think because I enjoy eating all that candy as much as they do.  We had our traditional "Robin Egg" hunt down stairs for the kids, but the kids are getting too good.  They already know about the good hiding places, but I had a couple of surprises for them.
After the egg hunt

Our colored eggs,  notice the various school emblems.

This Year's Easter Baskets

We went to Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson's for Conference and lunch on Sunday.  Its always good to get together with the family members.  I thank Mom Sorenson for the awesome lunch she made for us.  We came home and Jessica left to go back up to school and things quieted down really quickly.
So now it is Monday and we are on our last day of spring break. I had time to blog about our adventures this weekend, such as they were, and then clean the house.  Not a really fun way to finish the break but I guess necessary.
